G+_Dan Hockey
Hey KIA's. I've been trying to bridge my Centurylink C1100z to my Synology router with no joy. What other settings do I need to change in order for it to work? I installed the vpn software on the router but can't seem go any farther because of the modem. G+_Eddie Foy
Is the centurylink a modem/router combo? If so, is there any option to make it a bridge over a router? Can you get to a shell? Telnet/SSH? You might be able to force it into bridge mode via iptables/route commands. If its just a modem, then no need to 'bridge' it.
G+_Eddie Foy
You have gone through CenturyLink's transparent bridging? its on this page under basic http://tinyurl.com/jby8m5r I didn't look at it since it wanted my zip. Didn't wanna go down that rabbit hole. I already get 2 or 3 mailings a week from them.
G+_Dan Hockey
The modem/router lists three options, PPPoE, IPoE, and Transparent Bridging. I tried Transparent Bridging on the C110z and setup the synology to handle the PPPoE but the two refused to work together.
G+_Dan Hockey
I'm wondering if I DMZ'd the synology if that would work.
G+_Eddie Foy
DMZ'ing it should work and not a real issue since if used in a cable modem it would be in a DMZ; the internet. Can you telnet/ssh into the synology router? (the centrurylink modem should be telnet-able; I always see port 23 open, internal side, on them) Just trying to figure out what 'refuse to work together' means. A few command lines will shed light on it. ifconfig route iptables are the first that come to mind. (and of course ping, arp, and traceroute)
G+_Dan Hockey
Eddie Foy When I try to use PPPoE on the router it takes about 30 sec's to a minute before it reports "connection failed". Just figured out how to enable ssh on the synolgy, it looks like eth0 is connected to the C1100z.
G+_Eddie Foy
so ipconfig for eth0 shows an ip in the C110Z's internal subnet? In non bridged mode are the two devices on the same subnet? Try different subnets. From the Syno-router's ssh terminal: Can you ping the C1100Z? Ping it's WAN IP? Ping 8.8.8.8? Ping yahoo.com? (yup, I'm old school)
