Is the centurylink a modem/router combo?

If so, is there any option to make it a bridge over a router?

Can you get to a shell?  Telnet/SSH?  You might be able to force it into bridge mode via iptables/route commands.

If its just a modem, then no need to 'bridge' it.

DMZ'ing it should work and not a real issue since if used in a cable modem it would be in a DMZ; the internet.

Can you telnet/ssh into the synology router? (the centrurylink modem should be telnet-able; I always see port 23 open, internal side, on them)

Just trying to figure out what 'refuse to work together' means.

A few command lines will shed light on it.

ifconfig

route

iptables

are the first that come to mind. (and of course ping, arp, and traceroute)
