Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ About the SlimPort Nano Console, you know that a USB port on a phone or tablet can't be used to charge it and have data transfer at the same time, right?  I don't know if you can charge a phone while playing an HDMI video from the port but I don't think so.  I have one of the HDMI adapters that connects to my phone and takes power from it's own micro-USB port and all it does it power the adapter, it doesn't charge the phone.  While there could be some phones in existence somewhere that can be charged this way I don't think there are any tablets that can be while using the same port.  It might work on tablets that have a micro-USB port for charging and a micro-HDMI port for video also like the 10" HP tablet does but they don't show it using 2 different cables anywhere that I could find and besides, it you have both ports then you don't need this device at all.  Also, some devices like my phone are not that good at playing video and tend to stop and buffer a lot so I wouldn't even try to use it that way.  In other words, I don't think the SlimPort Nano Console is going to work.

Brian, in the first case that's how all USB devices work, the master or computer powers the client which in this case is the phone.

In the second case, something which is specifically designed for the Galaxy S3 is not a standard and won't work with anything else.

While an MHL/ HMDI adapter won't charge any other phone I did find a kind of Y adapter on Ebay that lets you power the device plugged into the phone while it's playing so the phone's battery doesn't run down quite so fast.
