G+_Arcturus Lancaster
question? can dd-wrt use vlan in a one direction way? Have some smart lights and knowing security on these things is prob crap. it would be nice for any device on my lan can see the light controller yet the controller can not see devices on my lan. G+_Andre Klärner
Thats what firewalls are for. If you can isolate the smart controller on its own port (some ddwrt router have all 4 LAN ports on a hardware switch and only one port in the OS for the whole switch) you can block all traffic to/from the controller except the ports required to use it. G+_Eddie Foy
ZERO reason for a light bulb to 'talk' to the internet. It should talk to a central internal server that might need access to the Internet. With quality scheduling and 'triggers', rarely a need for a home automation to accept incoming data from outside the home. Any access from the outside should be done via a VPN. G+_Arcturus Lancaster
Eddie Foy you are mostly right. the hub wants to access a NTP server. this i am ok with cuz automate the clocks. It does have a remote access feature that i have not enabled. the bit i am worried about and want to block is the bulbs use xbee or similar. no security and if hacked right one could use the xbee to gain access to the rest of my network. i want to isolate the light system such that it can not see other devices yet i still want to be able to control the lights from my tablet without having to connect to a different network. ddwrt should do this. am just not sure where to look or what terms im looking for to create this kind of one way vlan
