Hey guys.... Long story short, I need some serious help... My 6yo smashed my 128GB iPhone 6's screen... Apple was great and replaced the device for free, though I'm a few months out of Apple Care.

Before I took it to Apple, I did a full manual backup on my PC using iTunes...

Bring the new phone home... ready for a full restore, and...."iTunes could not restore the iPhone "iphone's name" because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone being restored."

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the only backup of literally 100 GB of images, video, apps, and music.

Called Apple, and they have no ideas... anyone know any reliable Windows apps that could do the job?

Wow, that really stinks! Since they replaced the device, have you verified that the new one is at the same or later version of iOS as the old one? I'm not sure it matters, but seems like something that would cause an error like that.

Another option is to try extracting your data from the backups manually. I don't have any experience with this, but it appears there are tools available to do so. Depending on what's corrupt with the backup, one of these might work. imobie.com - 2016 Best 6 iPhone Backup Extractor / iTunes Backup Extractor [Freeware Included]

And hopefully someone else can respond with experience. I use Android 99% of the time and just carry an iPhone for work.

I'd very highly recommend backing up your photos separately too. Even if you don't want to use iCloud or the free Google Photos backup, there are free tools that will back up the pics/vids on your local network. SyncThing and Bittorrent Sync come to mind - just check the "on wifi only" options in setting if you don't want to use data.

This just happened to me. For me it wasn't anything to do with my backup being corrupt, but the new iPhone does not have the correct OS on it. Plug in the new iPhone and update the OS with iTunes. Then try your backup. I got the exact same error message as you and it was very confusing. Hit me up if you have questions. I kept messing with it and it appeared to be more the "or not compatible with the iPhone being restored" part of the error message and any corruption.
