G+_Rud Dog
How does one force a client whether it be PC, DVD, printer etc to release its DHCP assigned IP address. Using the ASUS RT-AC87U as my router and DHCP server. I know you can release a computer from its lease at the computer but not sure if this can be done with the other types of items on my LAN. G+_Eddie Foy
Don't think you can outside of unplugging it/power cycle. But you can change the DHCP lease time on the DHCP server. Are you looking to remove it from the LAN? If so you might be able to create access controls in the router for the MAC address(es) of the devices for certain hours. G+_Rud Dog
Eddie Foy excellent! Your answer has the solution I was looking for "Change DHCP lease time". Gonna try this today and see if this works. Can't help wondering what it is set to only because the lease on some of my devices are the same over days if not weeks. Wonder what the mechanics of the release involve, meaning does the DHCP assign a different IP or the same one? Guess will answer my own question. G+_Eddie Foy
When the lease is up, the device will probably reconnect and get a new lease automatically. Typically it will give the same IP, but that is NOT written in stone. I recently watched a WiFi extender get a new IP every hour or so. But the other extender stayed solid. G+_Rud Dog
The ASUS router has a upper and lower limit hard coded in the lower limit is 120 guessing that is minutes will know in 2 hours or less.
G+_Eddie Foy
Are trying to keep it off the LAN or off the internet? If internet the router should have a page to allow internet for an IP/MAC only during certain times.
G+_Rud Dog
Original problem; My camera would lose power and when it came back online it would not have the same IP address assigned to it from the DHCP server (my router) You shared in a past post a way you could assign an IP address in the router that would still function as DHCP but would use the same address entered to the manual assign section of the router. Perfect!
G+_Rud Dog
Well set the router to release lease and renew after 120 (not sure if these minutes seconds or what ) but the address did not get assigned via the manual assigned DHCP address. Will try and reset router which is the DHCP server and see if that the way to go and if that doesn't do it will reset both items hopefully forcing the assigned IP address to gain hold. Defeats my whole idea of how to reset remote lease of IP address. some pics of the router The device in question is not using wireless connection using hardwired connection "mycloud"
