In your case the antenna was pointed where you needed and nothing else was used on the other end other then the device needing WiFi. Once pointing at the shed my laptop could if it was in the narrow beam function over wireless? Or do I need a another antenna in the shed.

Rudy Trujillo since you have a router with 802.11AC, the router actually has beam forming technology inside of it. This means that you don't want to do anything with the antenna's as this will degrade the usefullness of the wifi. What is in the garage/shed that you are trying to connect to this router that's inside the house? You might be able to get something like an external wifi adapter with a detachable antenna on it to reach into the house. I use an alpha USB WiFi AWUS036NEH and a high gain yagi in my semi to reach across a truck stop parking lot. This is my two cents worth. Think about it.

Wayne Hobbins , not true as far as AC is concerned. 5.8Ghz will not penetrate as far as 2.4Ghz will. So if his router is in the middle of the house, AC will not reach the shed. This is why I recommended in my comments of what I use out on the road as a truck driver for my laptops. Now, if his router was at the wall of the house exactly 30 feet from the shed, then yes, you would be able to reach that far. However, most people don't have their routers sitting near an outside wall. It's usually in a closet near the center of the house for better coverage of the house.
