G+_Rud Dog
My Display is the LG 34UM95, trying to connect it to my Roku's HDMI port to one of the Thunderbolt 2 ports on the back of the LG monitor. Can't seem to find the definitive answer on what cable I need to order. BTW the 2 HDMI ports on the monitor are already spoken for so can't use them. Sidebar: When, where and why would you use the port labeled Display Port?
G+_Ben Reese
I don't have any experience with thunderbolt, but I think you would need some active encoder box to convert hdmi to thunderbolt. There's a better chance you could find an affordable HDMI to DisplayPort, but that might have to be an active box too. What would be easier is to get an HDMI switch box. They're cheap, some are automatic and some have remotes. DisplayPort is just another video port. Most laptops have a DisplayPort/Mini DisplayPort, but it never really became popular. VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, now Thunderbolt, and probably soon USB-C... So many options!
G+_Eddie Foy
As Ben Reese said. Thunderbolt is more then video signal, its a global data cable. if you go the HDMI switch route, I'd suggest going a little further and get a matrix switch. G+_Rud Dog
I do believe Eddie Foy Ben was referring to me using HDMI switch instead of the thunderbolt ports.
G+_Ben Reese
I'm pretty sure that's what Eddie Foy?? was saying too... Instead of getting a regular HDMI switch (such as:: Hds-tek Mini Hdmi Switch 3-in 1-out (Hdmi V1.3) Intelligent,1080p Auto Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OHHT5SA/); though, he's recommending getting a matrix switch (like:: J-Tech Digital JTD-HD4X2-HIFI HDMI 4x2 Matrix Version 1.3 Certified for Full HD 1080p and Support 3D https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003EE19QS/ maybe?) ? G+_Rud Dog
Yikes! Got a brain freeze reading that will have to follow the links and review the pretty pictures.
G+_Jason Marsh
That 4x2 unit looks pretty sweet. Putting all the gear in a cabinet with only the displays out in the open; that's a feature many pay far too much for when kitting out their home entertainment systems with Control4 and the like. With this and an IR receiver in each room with a display...
