G+_Matt Cannizzaro
2nd show was so helpful in getting things straightened out and allowing me to participate in what we learned in the first show. Keep it up!

G+_Justin Phebey
Shannon Morse 2nd show was better but I think perhaps loops was jumping ahead too quick. Since variables have been touched on, perhaps different elements of a Method should be explained, such as variable visibility, classes, functions and calling these items from elsewhere. I thought the 'While' loop description was a bit confused when relating to calling it to make further use of it as it wasn't presented in the context of a Method or Function etc. Can you please tone down the enthusiasm a touch too, it seems rather patronising to an adult audience. Also could you stop bashing independant Internet/YouTube tutorials, it's far too much of a sweeping statement, poor form to bad mouth competitors. There are some real treasures out there that give their time to produce really great tutorials for free to end users, so you're really doing their efforts an appalling disservice.? G+_Shannon Morse
Justin Phebey I don't think I can tone down my enthusiasm. That's just my personality. Sorry if it seems like I'm patronising you! You would HATE me in person, lol.
G+_Mark Phillips
Shannon Morse I enjoy the show. I am still a novice programmer but I do understand the basics as long as I can figure out the syntax. It would be a good idea to breakdown a function soon. The stuff you say "don't worry about that right now". My thought is to create a simple program that may have a few functions and a few inputs from the user and explain what each section does. Not necessarily explaining the syntax of it but going through what each section is for and possibly have comments in place for GitHub and everyone can add on to it somehow. Just an idea that may help people start out simple. Keep it up!
G+_Justin Phebey
Shannon Morse just my 2c of feedback, perhaps in the US it's the norm for it to be so cheesy and over produced. In other cultures that level of sugar coated enthusiasm comes across as disingenuous, hence patronising for an older audience, eg > teenage. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Justin Phebey First warning. I enjoy critical banter, but if you're going to be patronizing and insulting without offering an iota of constructive criticism, I will simply ban you. I don't want to do it... and I assume you want to be a constructive member of the community, but please understand that I won't stand for people coming into this community just to bash everything they see wrong with everything. Peace, Padre
G+_Justin Phebey
Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ nothing intended as patronising or insulting, so am disappointed it should be taken as such. My initial post contains 4 main points of constructive feedback. My response to Shannon Morse was merely elaborating on what I had meant.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Justin Phebey I will assume good intent, but please be aware that writing things like: "you don't mind knocking everyone else that produce online tutorials" "in the US it's the norm for it to be so cheesy and over produced" read as really passive-aggressive, patronizing and insulting. G+_Shannon Morse
Justin Phebey after watching our episode back it sounds like you are taking one sentence that we said during the show and really turning it into something else completely. We were talking about an online service, not us, and how they offer finely tuned tutorials and detailed classes (which I've taken for my own uses for years). We never said we were any better or worse than other YouTube shows on the Internet. Or that ALL tutorial shows are bad. We don't 'bash' other people, and I have certainly run into my fair share of really bad youtube tutorials online that literally put me to sleep (like... If Ben stein taught Linux...) but I've also run into my fair share of good ones. If I said ALL tutorials were bad from independent podcasts... I would basically be bashing myself... Because I do tutorials for Linux terminal commands on an independent show that is on another site... So that would be hypocritical. See what I'm saying? Given that you feel we 'keep bashing' others, is this something else that is bothering you? You can always email me if you feel inclined. I'm not a closed off resource of information and I'm always available to listen :)?
G+_Frank Gibson
I think the "sugar coating" is exactly enough. It feels a little "infomercially" at times, with hosts asking questions they clearly already know the answers to, but it makes for a very easy-to-access beginner level product, which is exactly what I need. So thanks for the sugar coating, it makes the education pill easier to swallow!
