G+_Rud Dog
Running Windows 8.1 with a HD listed as 912.26GBs NTFS. Used space is about 490GBs. Picked up a Samsung 500GB SSD and was wondering if "only" Windows OS can be plucked from the HD and moved to the SSD with out bringing all the data over with the OS? Would like the SSD to run OS and any other suggested best practice programs. Ideas?

G+_Rud Dog
Arcturus Lancaster thats why wanted to "pluck" only the OS from the HD. There used to be a program long ago from Omega which would allow you to relocate installed programs from C:/ drive to, for example, D:/ but can't find it or anything like it. If I could, would run a test image onto the 500GB SSD. Then move all programs on to the D drive which would now be 1 TB.
G+_Arcturus Lancaster
You can indeed run the image and see how it goes. Arconis will resize partitions in the process of an image. Would only cost you the time of giving it a go. I would nuke what you can from the drive if that's an option.
G+_Brandon Ingli
I would clean install to win 10 while you have the chance. Latest update lets you activate 10 with a win8.1 key.
G+_Rud Dog
Thanks for the ideas all. The current machine houses one of my hobbies which is gaming and so far have heard nothing but bad things for gaming and upgrading to Windows 10. But will look into using the drive as a windows 10 install. Now all I have to do is research and cross my fingers that you can dump windows 10 install on a usb stick and boot/install from it to the new SSD?
