Is there an app for android phones that allows the same functionality as the Yibico security key usb donge. Would be nice if you could login to your whatever.com account and then press a button on your android phone to enter the website, banking, mail etc?

I am aware of the two step authentication currently offered by Google but combining it with the functionality of the Yibico method except by using your phone would be great for my wife, me, parents and grandparents.?

Like the idea but do I need another item to lose?

You should check out Steve Gibson's SQRL (Security Now on TWIT). https://www.grc.com/sqrl/sqrl.htm It's much better than the Yubico key system. It isn't ready yet but it will be soon.

Each time my Tivo is fired up and Security Now has a new episode I cross my fingers in hopes SQRL is ready.
