Is it possible to control the volume coming from the Tivo box to my TV using the remote control?

I know you can pair the Tivo remote control with most brand TV's but this is not what I am looking for. Simply put how do I control the audio out of my Tivo Box using the Tivo remote. Currently it is setup to control the volume via my TV.?

Answered my own question. Unless they added that support in the last 2 years, it doesn't likely suport those CEC features. It sounds like programming the remote to work with the TV is about the only option...

P.S. I don't have a TiVo, but the lack of CEC support makes it frustrating. I like being able to control the AVR and the Fire TV from the TV remote. Not that it's a great remote, just convenient to have it all in one place - which it sounds is what you're going for.

Ben Reese Thanks Ben, the idea here is a bit hidden so the answers would not commingle with the simplicity of the question.

As mentioned in another post my configuration has my tivo feeding a 3 to 1 hdmi switch combo extractor.

All worked fine with one exception. The volume being extracted is at a set level coming from the Tivo therefore cannot control the volume with the remote for the Tivo and to make it even more frustrating since the audio is extracted before it gets to the Flat Screen the remote for flatscreen has no effect on the extracted audio.

Someone suggested taking the sound from the headphone jack on the Flat screen if it has one (haven't checked yet) but I get the feeling the headphone jack on the tv does not have a volume adjustment. Guess will find out just have to pull the flat screen off the wall, ugh.

Steve Martin the extracted audio goes to couple of powered speakers but the audio is extracted as it travels from the tivo to the flatscreen. This makes it impossible to control the powered speakers as the Tivo can not or does not control the volume in any situation, from what I am gathering. Pressing the volume up or down does in fact control the audio which makes it to the flat screen but it must be turned down or echoing effect is heard.

Here I thought the Tivo was like a stand alone unit with all the functions of a tv but the screen unfortunately it lacks volume control.

Steve Martin Was looking into that via a suggestion to use the headphone jack.

Just finished visiting the Samsung web site to check out features on my set. Don't see headphone jack on the sheet for my flatscreen.

So far looks like the input to these newer flatscreens is intended for HDMI.

Still reviewing the sheet.

Maybe if I could input the tivo hdmi to the flatscreen then see if there is an output from the flat screen hmm don't see a reason for there being a hdmi output from the flatscreen.

To be continued.

Looks like my options were right there in front of me. It's to bad the flatscreen is such a pain to get at the input panel on the backside.

The user's manual (never read item) had the information I needed:

AUDIO OUT

Connects to the audio input jacks on your Amplifier/Home theater.

When connecting, use the appropriate connector (sold separately).

When an audio amplifier is connected to the AUDIO OUT jacks: Decrease the volume of the TV and adjust the volume

level with the Amplifier’s volume control.

@ DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)

Connects to a Digital Audio component such as a Home theater receiver.

When a Digital Audio System is connected to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack: Decrease the volume of the TV

and adjust the volume level with the system’s volume control.

5.1CH audio is possible when the TV is connected to an external device supporting 5.1CH.

When the Home Theater receiver is set to On, you can hear sound output from the TV’s Optical jack. When the TV is

displaying a DTV(air) signal, the TV will send out 5.1 channel sound to the Home theater receiver. When the source is a

digital component such as a DVD / Blu-ray player / Cable Box / Satellite receiver (Set-Top Box) and is connected to the

TV via HDMI, only 2 channel sound will be heard from the Home Theater receiver. If you want to hear 5.1 channel audio,

connect the digital audio out jack on DVD / Blu-ray player / Cable Box / Satellite receiver (Set-Top Box) directly to an

Amplifier or Home Theater, not the TV.

Tapped into the audio out jack with a pair of headphones and the volume out on that jack is not controllable. Dam was so looking forward to that being the answer to one less remote. Only thing left is to find an optical cable for the that connection and test.
