G+_Rud Dog
After running Steve Gibson's LeakTest and failing the outgoing test wanted to see the firewall setting and how Leaktest was listed as successfully contacting his server. unfortunately could not find a listing of successful firewall programs exiting the firewall. Does anyone know if this is something needing a setup procedure? Can't seem to find much for Firewall on the AC-RT87u?
G+_Ben Reese
Most firewalls are to protect against inbound traffic only and that's what most consumer routers do. I'm not sure about the AC-RT87u, but it would surprise me if it even had an outbound firewall.
G+_Rud Dog
Ben Reese Have to wonder what Steve's LeakTest is testing and why my router is failing. Let's hope somebody has some idea what is going on here cause I would really be interested to know if any programs are contacting the wan on my behalf. G+_Steve Martin
Rud Dog Ben answered your question. What it is testing is whether a random application (Leaktest.exe) can access the internet From your computer. So the outbound rules are open. That's what it tests. Since most Windows machines, and many OS's in general automatically allow all outbound connections by default it's not surprising. Few people know or care how to shutdown their outbound firewall rules in such a way that they can be truly safe. It also appears your router's firewall is also allowing all outbound traffic. That's not perfect, but it is pretty normal. I don't know if the AC-RT87u has logging, but if you can turn on logging, you could find out what is sending outbound data through your firewall.
