G+_Rud Dog
My PC works fine over the wireless network but my camera fails to send video. Is there a specific port which I should open on the firewall?
G+_Ben Reese
Where are you trying to view the camera from? It may need a plug-in like Flash. If you let us know what brand/model camera you have, someone might have experience already.
G+_Rud Dog
Ben Reese Sorry was a bit vague in my question learning not to ask a question when in a hurry. I have a LAN to WLAN bridge setup and my laptop can access the WAN vi the bridge, youtube videos and other sites. But when I attempt to connect my PTZ camera the app running the camera shows up but no video? Thinking maybe the firewall is preventing it from passing the video over the bridge but that is the extent of my knowledge on the subject.
G+_Ben Reese
That's a tough one. I'd think by now my IP cam manufacturers would have this figured out, but I'm sure there are still many connected devices that don't play well with even slightly complicated networks. That said, most cameras are probably tested using port forwarding through the router. If there's a port other than the one you use in the browser to log in, it should be specified in the manual and/or in the camera settings. I managed PBXs in a previous life. We had some IP phones that worked fine with port forwarding and others that didn't (yes, we were stupid enough to turn on port forwarding for IP phones back then). On one system, it was a matter of changing firmware version on the control card and PBX to make it work.
G+_Rud Dog
Ben Reese Thanks Ben. I enjoy getting things like this to work and continuing my search for "how to" again thanks for the added direction.
