While awaiting my Arduino and stepper motors started dreaming of more uses for this combination. The first thing coming to mind was in need of a motor with a bit more torque, power or ability to roll up a screen material for blocking sunlight through a window. The screen will weigh more than the plastic items attached to the steppers in your example so where does one find upscaled motors. Also will they function with the same controller board considering the additional need mentioned here in?

Rud Dog I would recommend car windshield wiper motor. There slow and strong. Just us some sort of feedback mechanism to know where the screen is. Like an optical switch or hall effect sensor.

610bob That would be great but need to build on the stepper motor/stepper Bd model shown as I am totally ignorant as how to marry the two and this is done for me in the example shown.

I had used a 12VDC car vent motor with a 2:1 ratio on the cord to pull up and hold (with power off) a thick bamboo blind.  It was  worm geared which in general has great holding power ( but slow)
