G+_Rud Dog
Took apart my LG 34um95 monitor to replace the switch which have a rather short life span. Received the replacement switch and it was an easy install but then I turned on the monitor it looked like cracked lines or lightning bolts across the screen and colors with localized resembling nothing that a screen should display. Any idea what is going on?
G+_Brian Horovitz
Sounds like you cracked the LCD while working on the switch. you can crack the LCD without cracking the top plastic layer so even if that looks ok the inner panel may be damaged
G+_Rud Dog
Brian Horovitz You are right on the money. After seeing the odd screen display when plugged in, thought, it can't hurt anything to dig a bit deeper. After getting the LCD separated from the back light section and holding it up to the sun could see several cracks not visible when the screen was assembled. Now the question is do I take my losses and toss the whole dam thing or see if I can find a replacement LCD panel to replace the damaged LCD. Something tells me the cost will be more then the unit is worth. They sell anywhere from 600.00 to 800.00 dollars for the whole unit. Live and learn. Now to spend the rest of the afternoon researching a replacement and pondering my analysis of the monetary feasibility. If anyone needs some tips on disassembling the LG 34um95 I am now an expert. Not that anyone would want my help after reading my experience herein.
