G+_Rud Dog
Is there a formula for battery charging time? Seen some 24VDC chargers which come in 600 milli amp all the way to 5 Amps. Assuming the higher the current the faster the charger but what would be the difference in time?
G+_Branden Snyder
I believe that it's literally a direct relationship. So a 2 amp charger would finish the charging cycle in half the time compared to a 1 amp. And a 4 amp finishes twice as fast as the 2 amp. yada yada.. A rule of thumb that I adhere to is never charge a battery at more than 2C. "C" is the capacity of the battery. Example, a 2000mAh battery (aka 2 amp hours) has a "C" of 2 and should not be charged with more than a 4 amp charger. This is not dangerous but a higher amps/faster charge could reduce the life of the battery. Some newer batteries have different recommendations so I suggest reading the manual. yuck lol :p To calculate how long it will take to charge, the formula is capacity/current = time. capacity(in amp hours) divided by current(in amps) equals time(in hours). G+_Tony Martin
Branden has provided a great response to you question. The only thing that I would add is that it really depends on the battery chemistry so without that information its difficult to provide an accurate answer but the information in Branden's post will certainly get you in the ball park. Also, I have seen calculators online that may help you.
