G+_Rud Dog
Two cameras with night vision side by side, one has a red glow to the leds while the other does not both function as in can see in the dark. What technologies are in use here?
G+_Jason Perry
They both are relying on IR to light the area. I find the cheaper cameras use red LEDs and rely on what spills over to IR. Personally I haven't noticed any difference, I am guessing it is just cost savings.
G+_Rud Dog
Jason Perry My reason for bringing it up has to do with stealth security. The red LEDS tend to give away the location of the camera. I can disable the LEDs on the camera UVC-G3 but would need an alternative night vision lighting source. Any Ideas? G+_Jason Perry
Sounds like a good DIY project. If you look at Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ?'s grow light from salvaged computer parts I think you would have a good start. You will probably have to substitute the strips for actual LEDs though
G+_Rud Dog
Jason Perry Thanks Jason, how do I identify the type LEDs to use which do not glow in the dark?
G+_Jason Perry
The data sheet should tell you. The visible spectrum for a typical person is 390 to 700nm so you are looking for something over 700nm
G+_Rud Dog
Jason Perry Great, Thanks.
G+_Rud Dog
I might already have the correct night vision LEDs. This was my thought after reading this: Wave length 850nm Infrared light. The beam lights is INVISIBLE to naked eyes but give a red glow.
G+_Rud Dog
Did not think it was going to be this difficult to locate the IR spec for the UVC-G3 but so far no luck.
G+_David Wiggins
The ones linked are 850-940nm. I hear there are also ones that are 940 with a +/- of 25nm. I think that's the best you can get in surface mount. The+/- constraint should keep out of the human visible spectrum. Be careful with brightness, it could still still at max with some, also consider the eyes of pets/animals. ebay.com - 3W Infrared IR 850nm 940nm 60 90 140degree Chip High Power LED Emitter with
G+_Jason Perry
And they are cheap. If your camera has 850nm LEDs I would try the 940nm LEDs
G+_Rud Dog
Jason Perry Contacted the manufacturer but the help could not tell me what part of the spectrum the cameras are setup for so guess if they are cheap I can do my on testing. Thank you David.
