G+_Rud Dog
Thought I would share: The box on my old Garmin NUVI 3597 GPS says, Free lifetime Maps and Traffic. It has been sitting for a while so thought I would hook it up and see what happens. That's when I saw the price for the updated maps and the asterisk. * A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Another learning experience.

G+_Rud Dog
Not sure they have the same definition as I do when it comes to customer? No matter they will not grow with the injection of google maps and the cell phone, IMHO.
G+_David Wiggins
Wow. My grandad was an early adopter, and has had a lot of trouble with accuracy in his the last couple years, even after getting new models. It's funny, though, he has a smartphone without a data plan, so Google maps can't do navigation.
G+_Rud Dog
David Wiggins Have been fan for a very long time in fact just dusted off my old StreetPilot III. Proudly printed on the upleft is ColorMap. Maybe I should sell these puppies.
G+_Ben Reese
David Wiggins? Google maps lets you download areas for offline use. Not sure it will find places of business, but should still do navigation. -Correction: I just turned off WiFi and mobile data. Was still able to search for Walmart and Target. Was quicker than with data on.
G+_David Wiggins
That's amazing. Maybe because there's less data to search locally, it can do so quicker.
G+_Damien Wessling
Thanks for this post Rud, I have a Nuvi 3590LM (2012) also with lifetime map and traffic updates (Aus) which these days, doesn't make it to the pc very often. It's a nice GPS to use, full glass screen, no bezel, quite modern. However, since adopting Google Maps on my phone for navigation, the Nuvi has been relegated to GPS speed only, hence overlooking the update cycle. I realise you've missed the boat on your Nuvi but sharing your frustration with Garmin has at least saved someone else from the same trauma. ??
