Looking to buy win 8.1 install disk but ran into a problem, it appears if you are not careful you will end up with a fix-disk not an install disk. Can any one tell me how to be sure what I buy is a fresh install disk?

A better option may be to download the ISO direct from Microsoft.. microsoft.com - Windows 8 ISO

Read the System Requirements.

If you will be installing the operating system for the first time, you will need your Windows product key (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). For more information about product keys and when they are required, visit the FAQ page.

For Enterprise editions please visit the Volume Licensing Service Center.

 

Headed back now to try and find where I can pay for the product key, as this is a first time fresh install.

Yeah, legally they will only sell you the current version unless you are looking at a professional or enterprise versions..

Aren't license usable for downgrading? Or is that just for Enterprise?
