After my long journey to find the perfect coffee maker it has come down to a Chemex handled pot ( still trying to research if this can be placed on open flame) and a drop in filter.

The search could be over but need to know if any of the materials for the 3D printers can be used with the making of and contact with HOT coffee? Will it leach the taste of plastic into my brew and will the plastic hold up to the temp of the coffee as it drops through the filter?

According to the National Coffee Association the ideal coffee brewing temperature is 195 to 205 degrees for optimal extraction. Since you might start with boiling water the temperature could be as high as 212 degrees. Any 3D filament that has a melting temperature at or below 212 degrees should be avoided (IMHO).

I don't have any info on the food grade impacts of the various filaments.

This was brought up in a discussion at the training i went to last weekend for the new airwolf printer my school district purchased for my classroom. The question wasn't about taste but about being food safe. There are filaments that are made from food safe materials, the concern is the pigments used may not be. There was also some talk about melting temperature of the filament as some printers might not be able to get hot enough.
