G+_Rud Dog
Thought I would share for those traveling down the same path. Looking to connect my Retired White Macbook laptop to my Flat screen only because it sits in a drawer collecting dust. First step was to find out what kind of Display connector was on the side of the laptop, it turned out to be Mini DVI. So hunted down a Mini DVI to HDMI adapter. Was set to order when decided to read up on the reviews. Turns out this particular laptop has the video signal traversing the adapter but not the audio signal. There were suggestions one which was using the audio jack to my sound port but there were claims the sound was out of sync. Scraped idea.
G+_Damien Wessling
If the analogue audio signal delay is a constant value, VLC has a feature allowing you to apply a delay value to the audio track in 50ms increments. I can't say whether there is the option to save the adjusted delay as default however, VLC being open source would no doubt offer a greater chance than others. It may be as simple as a modifier string in the startup. Worth a look anyway, could be a viable option to keep the Macbook in service.
G+_Ben Reese
Depending on what you want to accomplish, I think KODI has an option for audio offset too. http://bestforkodi.com/sync-your-audio-in-kodi/ Most TVs also have VGA input accompanied by a 3.5mm audio jack. That may be a better option since it won't output audio on DVI/HDMI. bestforkodi.com - Sync your Audio in Kodi - Best for Kodi
G+_Rud Dog
Damien Wessling Thank you. Do I associate VLC with video programs I launch?

G+_Damien Wessling
Rud Dog If you can get VLC to retain the audio delay settings, sure. Being a free solution app to run within your os, at least you can tinker with it and test with minimal disruption. I can't speak to Ben's solutions because I haven't used them but if they candle the HDMI and analogue audio out concurrently and still keep A/V in sync, the dedicated Media server solution would make better use of your hardware. G+_Rud Dog
Damien Wessling Attempted both solutions and Kodi refuses to load on the 10.6.8 version Software on the older Macbook hardware. VLC on the other hand did successfully load so will be tinkering with how I might get this to function. BTW tried to update the Macbook OS but failed something to do with the amount of memory (1GB RAM). Contacted support only because when you buy the upgrade OS 10.7 you get 90 day support from Apple. After lengthy phone engagement was told this was not an option and after about an hour of back and forth the last helpful Apple tech connection was dropped. Had enough with Apple for one day maybe sometime in the 90 day window will try again.
G+_Rud Dog
Ben Reese As you probably noted from my post to Damien, the Kodi refused to load on the older Mac. But the links to "Best for Kodi" were very interesting reading, thank you.
G+_Ben Reese
By "older MacBook", do you mean pre-Intel processors? I'm wondering if you can replace the Mac OS with something better - or at least boot camp OpenELEC or Windows.
G+_Rud Dog
Ben Reese Excellent idea (Sometimes the brain slips into park) thanks for the idea as the macbook is rather useless as it is now.
G+_Rud Dog
Looking for instructions on installing Android on White Macbook ,the one mentioned in this post, found plenty of tutorials on do this with an older PC but not Mac. Well there were some using some sort of VM setup, don't think this is an option with only 1GB of ram.
G+_Ben Reese
Rud Dog if it has an Intel processor, maybe check out RemixOS? I've run it in VMware, but never bare metal.
G+_Rud Dog
Very interesting never heard of RemixOS after visiting page was amazed how things are going and the direction taken. Unfortunately the spec calls out 2GB RAM now will have to look into upgrading the unit and see if it is even possible. Have to also check what type processor it runs. Thank you once again. Recommended system requirements for RemixOS 2 GHz dual core processor or better 2 GB system memory Minimum 8 GB of free hard drive space Internet access is helpful

G+_Ben Reese
Hmmmm.... Yeah, it looks like I'm giving mine 2GB RAM too. I'll try later to see how it runs with less.
G+_Rud Dog
Decided to open up the Macbook and what type memory it contains. At the same time wondering does the Macbook have as much or more power at for example the Nivida Shield? Not sure it can run Android at the moment due to insufficient memory. So time to decide to purchase the 4GB of ram only cause I can't find 2GB total 2 x 1GB sticks. Crossroads.
G+_Ben Reese
Just for the experience, it might be worth upgrading the Mac. If you just want a Android machine for media use, the nVidia Shield or Amazon Fire TV (I like the Fire TV box if the price isn't much concern) are probably better options. Built for Android, use less power, out-of-the-box setup, etc. Even a 2 yo Android phone with an MHL adapter may not be too bad...
G+_Rud Dog
4GBs of memory came in yesterday installed it upgraded to OS 10.7.5 followed up by adding Kodi it installed just great. Only thing I noticed is can't find the Kodi application icon. In order to launch it have to use the kodi-16.1-Jarvis-x86_64.dmg file? Any suggestions? G+_Rud Dog
Good old Apple products especially the older ones, I think. After getting my old laptop OS X upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5 was able to upgrade programs as mentioned before. Feeling pretty good broke out the Bluetooth speaker my son gave me for Christmas. It works great with other stuff so why not. Well it refused to pair. Checked on line for "tutorials" and apparently it is a known problem. So far the fixes found have not correct the problem guess will have to use the old fashion method, run sound from Laptop to my input for my Bluetooth speaker. Got to find a way to make this work so the laptop can display its content on the Flat-screen and keyboard and mouse can connect via Bluetooth for remote controlling screen content. Yup, don't think its my speaker something to to with Bluetooth on the laptop.
