If I check the certificates of a download and it calls out komodo should I avoid the download? Seem to remember something from Mr Gibson's videos and the komodo certs. Help and old man remember and keep safe.

Would have included a pic but my screen phone capture software doesn't work when that dialog box comes up.

I believe Comodo Antivirus is what Gibson said to stay away from, but it seems like he may have talked about Komodo certs too. In general, I'd say it's probably fine; but that probably depends on the nature of this download too. If the site has a checksum listed (MD5, SHA1, SHA256) than compare that to the file you downloaded. Beyond that, it probably isn't a concern unless it's an executable. Just hard to say though.

The risk with the Komodo certs - if I remember correctly - is that they leaked a their private signing cert (unless I'm getting confused with another incident). If that's the case, you can use the certificate fingerprint test at GRC to verify the cert your getting is the same one Steve is getting.

I hope this helps and doesn't just confuse you more.
