G+_Rud Dog
Well it's time to ask the ASUS AC-RT87u question, can anyone tell me what this log entry from my router is trying to tell me and how to fix this if it needs fixing? https://pastebin.com/WTT5wsie https://pastebin.com/WTT5wsie
G+_Travis Hershberger
A device has the same host name as the router. At least that's what dnsmasq is reporting. I like that it's using dnsmasq, much easier to deal with than bind.
G+_Thomas Pires
The machine ending in IP .200 computer name is localhost? If this is true, I suggest you change the name of the machine to something other than localhost. You can't use localhost as a machine name because that name is reserved for all (all the ones I've dealt with) OS's as itself. The logs are reporting that it can not make the DHCP for the machine name because it's reporting as localhost.yourdomainname.
G+_Rud Dog
Thanks guys, just finished looking up info to access the router via a CLI connection. Looked into the host file on the router and the entry called out cannot be found. Looked at the Samsung flatscreen which is the device in question and it has no such entry. Can not find the entries called out on ether the router host file or the setup screens on the Samsung flat screen. BTW this did not start occurring till we purchased and added the Samsung TV to the network (LAN).

G+_Thomas Pires
Looks like this issue has happened before between Samsung TVs and ASUS firewalls. Good Luck. snbforums.com - RT-AC68U hostname conflict | SmallNetBuilder Forums
G+_Rud Dog
Just to add to the madness there is also a known arbitrary reboot problem with the same router as I found out first hand and through searches online. This fricking router was NOT cheap. Oh well lesson learned.
