G+_Henning Andersen
I ran SpinRite on a dying disk to try to fix it, but when it got 71% through the disk it started doing DynaStat recovery on broken sectors. I don't get why it makes this sound. I had to turn it of because i couldn't stand sitting next to this. Otherwise an awesome utility for both maintenance and recovery of HDDs and SSDs! Does anyone know how to turn the sound off? I searched and found three solutions that didn't work for me: 1. Plug in headphones 2. Press both shifts at the same time 3. Enter some DOS-command before starting it (How? I'm probably not savvy enough)
G+_Keith Foster (Rex's Den
If it's beeping through the pc speaker and earphones didn't over-ride it I would put it in my closet and throw a towel over it. Unless you have a garage. Put it in there. I doubt it would overheat while running a disk utility. If it were a desktop, I'd just unplug the case speaker. G+_Phillip Stewart
Just disconnect the PC speaker cable from the motherboard.
G+_Kris Ackermans
Have you asked GRC? https://www.grc.com/support.htm
G+_Henning Andersen
This is the most "remote" place to put it! And the pc is so old and probably full of dust that it nearly overheats without being in a closet or covered with blankets ? Since it's an laptop it's hard to get to the motherboard / speaker cables. And yes, I have sent feedback to grc about it ?
