Searching for desktop software dealing with facial recognition, sorting tons of pictures.

 

Currently doing an extensive search for this type software but getting nowhere. If you know of one please let me know.

 

Windows 8.1 computer.

I'd like to have face rec. too but, i don't like the idea of basically shareing my stuff with a faceless entity(google, microsoft or other). I consider my pictures as sensitive information. Think about it... You pictures identify you, people you know, places you have been, stuff you have and more. If a picture is worth a thousand words then how much information are you just throwing out there?

Rud Dog? yes, you do need to upload them to the online Google photos.

 

FYI, I have the automatic upload of all my photos enabled, so this just automatically happens for me.... I've chosen Google as the company that will know more about me than I do.

Google's old Picasa desktop application does facial recognition without uploading everything. I'm not sure if it's still available for download, but I've probably got the installer somewhere if it's not online.

Deleted link, malwarebytes reported a virus.

Found a copy downloaded ran defender and malwarebytes all good installed and running both again.

I usually upload questionable downloads to virustotal.com - VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner

 

I was able to find a couple installers. No clue if one is the latest & greatest version.

How about OpenCV?

 

I heard about OpenCV about 6 months ago, but haven't had the time to really read up about the project.

 

EDIT: Below is a link to another OpenCV example that came across the other week. It, as others have commented about in the post, should be titled Face Detection, not Recognition. Some people were a bit more constructive and posted links to other related projects. Take it if you like it.

BTW, I saw another story some where (don't have the link handy) where some one added OpenCV to a home-built drone and it was able to detect and identified objects seen (e.g. Person, Dog, Car) while flying down an alley

Ben Reese Checked it out could not find pricing. Could fill out the form they provide from which they determine if you qualify for the software, they probably pass everyone. Will need to find pricing before continuing, will see about contacting them via email lets see if they respond. Thanks Ben.

todd zimmerman not sure this is for me a lowly hobbyist sounds like something functional but don't have the experience to implement. Maybe down the road can look into it but for now thank you for the post.

Ben Reese Correct me if I am wrong, that software is crazy expensive.

Yes, it is. Looks like it's ~$3,000 per license, now that I look at it. Far more than I'd be willing to spend. Maybe if I helped run a mega church or something.
