G+_Rud Dog
There was a question posted here on speeds between NAS over LAN so I thought I would test my Drobo connected via USB2 to a DroboShare which is then connected to my LAN. The other end is my Desktop PC. The switch is an unmanaged Cisco Gbps switch. Well, I was going to upload a video showing my test but keep getting this error, checked all the help I could find on why but no success. BTW: Its an AVI file. OK, went back after listening to Akira Yamanita (Thank you) and changed the settings to MP4 and 1920 X 986. Upload worked!
G+_Akira Yamanita
AVI is just a container. Basically it’s a wrapper with information about the video but the video itself could be in any number of formats. What are you using to produce the video and can you choose other formats? Is it something that you could redo or would you want to convert the video instead?
G+_Rud Dog
Akira Yamanita Using Camtasia and have been for all my videos this is the first time I have had one rejected. Having said that this doesn't mean I didn't mess something up. When I create the videos I simply use the default settings over and over again. Don't understand what I could have changed cause I don't fuss with the setting but will review while testing a shorter video. Thanks for the tip. G+_Akira Yamanita
I haven’t put up much on YouTube but I’ve heard that it can be finicky. Looking at some forums, it appears that some users have had the same issue where some videos work but others don’t, even with the same settings. Custom settings appear to be the fix. G+_Ben Reese
Does it play locally? Like with VLC? I'd try running it through FFMPEG to convert it to MP4 and see if that will upload. Like Akira Yamanita said, AVI is just the wrapper. Most likely the underlying codec is what YouTube doesn't like.
G+_Paul Hutchinson
Video file formats seem to be intentionally confusing. MP4 (official standard name is MPEG-4 Part 14) is also just a wrapper and can contain different video types some of which are incompatible with some services/players. :-( Fortunately most programs create MP4 files with one of the common variations that most sites and players can use. (e.g. MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 10 (H.264) )

G+_Paul Hutchinson
The higher transfer speed for large files is due to the large amount of overhead per file start/end in the SMB protocol. For more consistent and overall faster file transfers the (S)FTP protocol is much better than SMB.
G+_Tailsthefox Pelissier
No matter what NAS you use; Drobo, Free NAS, Unriad, Synology, exe it's all in how it's networked. Wired as much as you can. Since even if you use spining drives it's much faster and works better on an wired network. I know Raid 1 and Raid 5 can't replace back-up but it does help.
