G+_Rud Dog
Google Voice is the subject of this post. I have this service in my home and have found one annoying problem with the service. The phone rings on the calling parties side for it seems like forever and they hang up leaving no message. So I contacted Google Voice support and here is what I found. Consider this FYI. Devi12:01 PM I have checked and I see that the ringer time is default in Google Voice for all the devices. Devi12:02 PM It will ring for 25 seconds before going to the voice mail. Devi12:02 PM This cannot be changed or controlled.
G+_Paul Hutchinson
POTS ringing in North America is 2 seconds ring 4 seconds silence giving a ring interval of 6 seconds. Checked my Vonage number which has the default voicemail wait setting, and it uses a 2/3 pattern, 5s interval, and only goes to voicemail on the 6th ring which is @ 30s. I was taught back in the 1960s to always let the phone ring 6 times before hanging up so the Vonage default 30s or Google Voice unchangeable 25s does not surprise or bother me. I like having 25/30s of ringing so that I have time to check caller ID and maybe answer the phone before it goes to voicemail.
G+_Rud Dog
Paul Hutchinson Thank you that was interesting and informative. I must be getting a lot of robocalls or impatient friends cause it is rare they leave a message. Now that I think about it is there not a section where google voice records every call? Time to do some checking.
G+_Jason Brown
I'm pretty sure you can only record calls on a per call basis, and they notify the other person of the recording, which can be off putting a bit.
G+_Rud Dog
Jason Brown I was looking for a shorter ring cycle so they would hang around long enough to leave a voice message.
G+_Rud Dog
Just started looking into Google hangouts to see if this will help
G+_Jason Brown
I get that part. I was just referring to your comment about Google voice recording every call. I took that to mean the recording of an actual completed call, as opposed to simply leaving a VM.
G+_Jason Marsh
If you have GV forwarding calls to another line, you can basically disable voicemail on GV by letting your other line take the voicemail. I have a GV line that's setup to capture caller name with a prompt before ringing anywhere. I still get voicemail on my cell during ring-through hours. After hours, GV still captures voicemail for me. The way I look at it, if there was no message, they didn't want to talk, it wasn't that serious, or it was a robocall. Family and friends will call my cell directly or text me. Back to robocalls... we get far more robocalls than real calls. One of the frequent offenders is a travel services (read: timeshare) company in Hilton Head. After telling them we aren't interested on the first call, we now get robocalls from them anytime 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. almost daily!
G+_Rud Dog
Jason Marsh Robocalls are hell and I agree with the numbers but as we all know they will never address this issue. Secondly been looking for a video or tutorial to show how to send my home number to my cell phone and my wife's cell phone. The home number is a google voice setup. The two cell phones are on Project FI. It would be nice if I could xfer the calls coming in on the home phone (landline converted to GoogleVoice) so they ring or forward text messages to both cell phones which are on Project Fi. If anyone has found such a video it would be great if you share.
G+_Jason Brown
You can't use Google Voice with Fi. They will not support it. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt
