G+_Rud Dog
MacBook Pro... My wife is reminding me her computer is not running like it was when it was new. So I want to back up everything on the computer and reinstall the OS. Can anyone recommend a backup app/SW for this endeavor? Will be backing up to NAS. I will use Timemachine but rather not. G+_Akira Yamanita
SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner. You’ll have a bootable image just in case and the files can be individually copied just by mounting the image and then copying them as needed. It’s possible to do this with Disk Utility as well. G+_Rud Dog
Akira Yamanita You nailed it. One option I forgot to mention was the need to access the backup for downloading files. Some backup software is proprietary and requires the SW to access data.
G+_David Crook
Rud Dog Either SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner will do just what you want: After either app has cloned your system to an external storage drive, you can access the contents of that drive to examine or copy--by physically reconnecting that drive and, within Finder, go to anything on that drive (given permissions you should automatically have).
