Drobo and Synology what to do.

I own a very early Drobo which when first introduced connected by only USB directly to my computer. later they introduced a DroboShare unit which allowed the Drobo to connect to the Droboshare unit via USB and DroboShare unit would then connect to the Ethernet network.

The Drobo of that time had some features like the Synology NAS but the combo for installing stopped functioning and no amount of contact with Data Robotics got me a solution.

Is it maybe possible to purchase a small foot print computer as the head unit and attach the Drobo to the same then connect the Drobo to the LAN. In effect replacing the Droboshare hardware and hopefully gaining services that would support the Drobo, something similar to the Synology software.

I have a Drobo 5N (2nd gen) and from what I know about the Synology models, it sounds like they have a much fuller feature set.

I also have a Drobo 5D which I no longer use because it's inconvenient. I have considered its use with a Raspberry Pi as a homemade cloud storage solution but haven't really investigated that option.

BTW, did you intend to post your serial numbers?
