My wife and I purchased Adobe Creative Suite 4 also know as CS4 well now few years down the road we attempted to load it in a new Imac and found stumbling blocks for loading it into a new OS version. We finally gave up. Is there a replacement for the Photoshop portion of this suite or something doing equivalent in nature. Do not want a cloud based product.

Not unless you can find someone selling CS6, the last version. But they stopped selling subscriptionless version back in January

There should still be a way to install it, assuming it's still run on only the one system.

 

The most popular replacement is G.I.M.P. (GNU Image Manipulation Program). It can do almost everything Photoshop can, but the user interface is very different.

Travis Hershberger When we attempted to run CS4 we get an error need to load Java SE 6 runtime. While attempting to load the requested version of Java I get "a new version is installed.

Apparently, you must remove the current version of Java and install the older version you are given three root commands to remove the newer Java version.

Then you install the Java legacy version.

 

Once completed attempted to launch CS4 and was greeted by this version is no longer supported. Needless to say, we gave up on CS4.

 

My wife installed gimp (free) and is now reviewing the tutorials on how to use it.

Sometimes Apple really makes things complicated well in this instance it felt that way.

I use Gimp daily. It is a learning curve and is not as polished nor easy as PS was but it gets the job done. Stick with it and it will do what you want it to do.

Checkout Gimpshop. It's out of date, but it's supposed to skin Gimp to look more like PS. It might be a good stopgap between PS and the latest version of Gimp.

I'd suck it up and just learn the actual Gimp interface.
