G+_Fredrik Fällman
Good read an why shows on certain platforms might not have the fit and finish of shows on Netflix http://gigaom.com/2013/11/28/why-arent-amazon-and-hulu-shows-playing-on-netflixs-level/
G+_Mario Scott
Well I use Netflix and Amazon Prime(but I have Prime for all other benefits of Prime). I watch Hulu, but do not pay for Hulu Plus. They all have there advantages and disadvantages.
G+_Glenn Hoeppner
Gotta be honest, I find the Amazon quality better than Netflix, even with Super HD. And yes, I have a capable device.
G+_Mario Scott
For Netflix to scale they have to compress the hell out of the stream. If they can do more deals to get there boxes within the MSO's, then there quality will improve dramatically.
G+_John Clark
I've had far better luck with Netflix than I have with Amazon here in eastern Iowa. Amazon kept dropping out of HD, Netflix has been far more stable for me.
G+_Wes Mauer
Glenn Hoeppner I agree. I've noticed the download speeds from Amazon Video to my house are ridiculously fast too. I don't know what CDN they are pushing it from, but I'm getting (according to the downloader any way) about 14 MB per second on just a standard home internet connection. That kind of speed can push a seriously high bit rate to get that quality.
G+_Wes Mauer
I think ultimately Netflix and Amazon come from different places. Netflix is looking to build content to deliver because that is their core competency. Amazon is looking to drive sales because retail is their core competency. Amazon Prime's main goal is to get you to think of Amazon first when it comes to shopping, and the video is huge part of the hook. Everyone talks about these big shows that Netflix makes (which are of great quality), but I still think their hidden strength is going to be in development of niche content. The shows that cost at or near 1 million USD to produce for a season and are highly targeted at specific audiences. The sheer amount of information that they hold about viewing habits, likes and dislikes, etc. of individual subscribers means they could produce small shows to play to audiences of 100,000 subscribers and make money or least make it compelling for people to stick with the service. Hulu's problem is that content owners are also major stakeholders. That's not bad if you're an indie service showing indie shows and movies, but these stakeholders are into maximizing profit first and foremost, and the customer experience ranks somewhere below that. Finally, when it comes to retail, don't rule out Wal Mart. I know it sounds silly, but they have so many weapons at their disposal, they can do some serious damage to Amazon yet. There is no reason they couldn't turn Vudu into a more formidable Amazon Video competitor and offer subscription services to include things like same day delivery right out of their stores. The distribution network is vast, well organized and obviously well funded. The weapons are all there, they just need to use them. Holy crap I wrote a book here. Thanks for sticking around to the end. :)
G+_Mario Scott
Wes Mauer you are right with Wal Mart. They own Vudu and been make big strides with that service.
