Setting up Device names in my router does not carry over to my scans of network using Advanced IP Scanner. Can anyone tell me why?

What devices are you using? What router and what IP scanner?

It's probably because those names never appear on the network which is why you had to manually enter them in the router. To have a name show up in both places it needs to originate from the network device itself e.g. hostname.

 

At least that's my experience with my Netgear R7000 and IP scanning software, the devices that had no name I had to set in the router and in Fing.

Fing app #rules and just works.

I agree, I use Fing. You can name the devices there. And do things like wake on lan or port scanning.

I have used Fing and Google WiFi to name devices on my network but scanned with Advanced IP scanner they don't appear. It seems the mac address manufacturer's portion takes precedence. Sometime when I use Advanced IP scanner nothing shows up under that column.
