G+_Larry Hawkins
HI Padre, I am in a challenge? I have watched youtube video's and read articles until I am blue in the face and still lost. My end goal is to build a system that will let me play WOW as a very casual gamer on a 55 inch 4K TV and not cost a fortune (under 3k if possible) or have a system that will replace the furnace to warm the house. I would like to keep the system as quiet as possible. No one seems to have a straight answer on the required Video GPU/HP. I want to be able to easily replace video cards so water cooling looks like a less attractive option. I live in Canada and some of the newer stuff is hard to get. I know I have to go with HDMI 2.0 to work with the TV and do I need to go with an 980 TI or is that over kill, I know later I could add a second if I needed more but would I ever.. not sure. G+_Wolf 68k
The 980Ti would be just fine since you want to get it to play at 4K.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Question: I know you're going to play on a 4K screen... but do you want to actually output at 4k? Or are you ok with 1080p upscaled. BTW... this will be WAY under $3k :)
G+_Larry Hawkins
Thanks all, I am going to wait until the new 4K TV's come out this spring, I believe I need to look for a system that supports "game mode". I know the upscaling works but is adds delay for the processing. The 980 TI should allow me to go SLI down the road if I need more but seeing more and more games coming out in 4K , and on a 55 in TV would be far better then the two 1080P 28 inch monitors I am currently using. Event the wow engine is getting updated so you can see longer distances and the dungeons will look great on 4K. I am Canadian so with exchange it is terrible right now. I plan to stick with ASUS cards and MB to minimize incompatibilities. I am going to build my system around the video card requirements to ensure my system/ case has the room
G+_Steve Martin
Just to say as a (too) long term WoW player. WoW is pretty easy going for Graphics needs. To be honest, if it weren't for the 4K requirement, you could get a cheap gaming PC to play it just fine. I have a 980 Ti that I use for lots of stuff besides WoW, but in the end it has more than enough horsepower for you purposes. I drive a 3K monitor with it alone after having a pair of 760 GTX's in SLI, the 980 Ti was an excellent upgrade. Without the need to get a pair. WoW on my monitor is getting over 120FPS. So I suspect it would do 4K without any problem.
