G+_Black Merc
Md5 is the first checksum that comes to mind... Back in the xp era there was an addon that right clicking on a file, the sub menu contained an option to calculate the Md5. I forget the name and source. G+_Ben Reese
Windows will do it natively with PowerShell. Get-FileHash path\to\file If I remember correctly, SHA1 is the default. You can chose from a few hash algorithms. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/reference/5.1/microsoft.powershell.utility/get-filehash

G+_todd zimmerman
I've been using WinMD5Sum Portable (https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/winmd5sum_portable -- part of the portableapps.com - PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable, and cloud drives suite) for a number of years. By the way, PortableApps is really targeted for people who want to run apps suites from a flash drive, but I install them to my D: drive (I like that the apps don't entrench themselves deeply into Windows). Also, most of the Apps in PA are Open Source. Up to this point, I've normally open WinMD5Sum then drag the target file onto the app. I just added a shortcut to WinDM5sum to my Send-To folder (for Win10, C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo) and the right-click Send To -> WinDM5Sum it works. [i'm not sure why I didn't do this earlier.] Lastly, PA has Rapid CRC Unicode Portable that does CRC/MD5/SHA hashes, but I think it creates hash files, but doesn't render a hash value of a target file for verification. (I just installed it and played with it for a couple of minutes and now moving on to other things. I just saw this post and figured I'd make a quick reply.) G+_Ben Reese
Oh yeah... I believe 7-Zip will do checksum from the Explorer context menu too. 7-Zip is one of the first applications I install when setting up a computer.
