G+_Gary Volk
OK, need some help here. I'm looking for an app to be able to turn an old phone into a bluetooth (or wifi) audio receiver. When I am exercising, I hate wearing headphones and would like to transmit the audio from my main phone to an old phone hooked up to a pair of speakers. I want to keep the main phone close by in order to play/pause, skip tracks, etc from various apps(pandora, google music, beyondpod, etc). I figure I want to make a poor mans version of audio chrome cast. Can't seem to find anything in the Play store. Any ideas? Thanks.
G+_Jose C Martinez
Even if this were possible, why not just get a Bluetooth speaker? Seems like a mess of trouble you want to go through...
G+_Gary Volk
Jose Martinez Because I have an old phone thats not doing anything and I don't have the money to purchase a bluetooth speaker at the moment.
G+_L I
I used to use 2 apps to do something like this called 2player and Skifta. It looks like only 2player is still around but I have no idea if it's any good anymore. You might also want to check out BubbleUPnP, Tonido and Younity. G+_Jeff Fox
TwoBit Gary you can get a Bluetooth speaker for $20 on Amazon.
G+_Gary Volk
Jeff Fox true, but it's difficult to spend money when we're working on getting debts paid off, even small amounts like that. If I can do it with a couple apps so much better. Lionel D? I am looking into some dlna apps that may fit the problem. I'll look into the apps you mention. I may even get some remote desktop type apps.
G+_L I
TwoBit Gary 2Player and Skifta were DLNA/UPNP apps but 2 player was last updated in 2013 so that's probably out. BubbleUPNP looks promising from the description and also supports Chromecast.
G+_Justin Weberg (JustWeb)
Use plex with plex remote or just get a Bluetooth speaker
G+_Gary Volk
So found a promising solution, need to test some more. The app is called AirAudio and it does require root to work. You can stream from any app to AirPlay, dlna, sonos, allplay, roku, Google cast, fire tv or heos(and probably others). Was last updated on March 10th. On the receiving end, any dlna player should see it as a server. I've tried media house and allconnect and a few others with success. There is about a five second delay/buffer but you can control volume and all the usual stuff from the host phone. I was hoping the plex app would have seen this server, need to poke around AirAudio settings. The app costs 5, but does start out as a full working demo with beeps every 5 minutes. Have not tested long enough to hear how annoying the beeping gets, will find out this evening. ?
G+_Gary Volk
Lionel D? I don't find skifta any more. 2player looks more to be able to stream local media. I want to be able to stream Pandora or Google play or my podcasts to another device. I had high hopes with bubbleupnp, but could not get it to serve media to other device. It did work well getting stream from AirAudio
G+_L I
TwoBit Gary my bad I didn't read carefully enough that you wanted to redirect the audio output via Bluetooth
G+_Gary Volk
Lionel D not a problem. Your suggestion still pointed me to the right line of thinking. Appreciate the help.
G+_Paul Graham
Every modern phone should have a feature built in called Bluetooth audio channel. I own an LG g2 and I found the feature in the Bluetooth settings for my phone. Double check the features for your old phone as it may have it as well. Bluetooth audio channel allows your phone to connect directly to the device in question via Bluetooth and receives only audio. I've successfully connected to my Samsung smart tv this way, as well as connecting to my pc. If you're beget if tight I'd look at this option first.
