G+_Charlie Cangialosi
I'm considering building a computer which I have not done in about 5 years. I am undecided though. I have two requirements. First I have to have a dual display graphics card. Easy enough. Also I want to put the OS, which will be Windows 8 on a solid state drive and have a SATA drive for everything else. I can probably build that but it costs more than to just buy a half way decent computer and put in the graphics card. What I am not to sure about is how to get the solid state drive as the boot drive. I can just blow away the W8. Install the SSD drive and install my copy of W8 on the SSD. If so is there anything I need to be careful of. Never did this before. Thanks; Charlie
G+_Paul Turner
I bought my SSD from Crucial and it came with the "Data Transfer Kit". A cable connected my SSD to the computer via USB, transferred my drive image to the new SSD, I swapped out the drives, turned the computer on and I was good to go. Hope that helps. G+_Charlie Cangialosi
Wow, that would be great. So the SSD drive became the boot drive at that point I could wipe the other drive and use it for storage. Is this correct?
G+_Paul Turner
I was replacing the HDD in my laptop, so I switched out the drives. I haven't built a computer in 15 years, so I'm not sure what the next step is, but I'm sure that when you have two drives, one has to be designated as the primary drive. I'm hoping this little helps. G+_Charlie Cangialosi
I could copy the drive on to the SSD put that in boot from it put the other drive as a USB drive wipe it then reinstall it

G+_Joseph Bradley
Just make sure you get a good quality SSD and you will be blown away by the boot and program launch times.
