G+_Robert Clark
VPN connection with Private Internet Access to Netflix is made through a peering point that has higher throughput to Cogent which is used by Netflix as their CDN. The net result is higher throughput of streams from Netflix. You can measure the bitrate of your current connection to Netflix by watching the video Example Short 23.976. Change your connection to route through a VPN and measure again. During peak times you'll see a significant gain in the bitrate. The congestion is at the peering point between AT&T and Cogent. Using a VPN changes the routing to avoid the congested network. Search Google for VPN for Netflix and you can read much more about using VPN with video services to improve the connection. ?
