G+_Tom Gehrke
On Phablets I talked to a guy at work this past week who does not have a smart phone. (In his defense, company provided phones can't have cameras and that cuts out quite a large section of the market.) At any rate, I was hoping to get an idea from him about what he might be interested in. There was a discussion of OS and form factor and he made a statement that, frankly, floored me. "I don't want a smartphone. That's too small for me [pointing at my Galaxy S3]. I want something I can use as a tablet that has phone capability. I can always use a bluetooth earpiece for handling voice calls." After getting over my shock at someone calling my S3 small, I asked, "Larger than a Kindle Fire?" because I knew he'd played with the one we had in the office and thought it was too small. "Yes," he replied. "As large as an iPad?" He replies with, "Maybe not quite that large." Since phablets are a fairly regular All About Android topic, I thought the anecdote might be entertaining if not interesting. Just goes to show that there's a market for almost everything. :)
G+_Joseph Cappellino
Show him the Galaxy Note II. Also, look into the PadFone. He would be limited to AT&T or T-Mobile, but it would be a good candidate.
G+_Tom Gehrke
I showed him the Ascend Mate. Still too small. I use my phone as a phone almost never. So it's hard to argue against the concept of a device that's used as a tablet 99% of the time.
G+_Edgar Cervantes
Best solution would be the padfone 2.
G+_Corey Scott (Captain Te
I tend to agree. It would be ideal, for me, to be able to make calls through a bluetooth attached to a tablet. The idea of having both devices is a bother, and I barely use my phone as a phone anyways. But I feel like I need it to be available, usable, and stable for calls every so often that I can't just give it up. I don't know why I don't just go to a prepaid model. G+_Robert Hendrix
There have been a few people who get a GSM tablet such as the Nexus 7 32GB with GSM and use it with Google Voice, Skype, and buy a call out number. That or get a tablet and use it with the mentioned apps and a hotspot. It works well with Bluetooth.

G+_Tom Gehrke
clouds osmoke Hands. ;) Honestly, I don't know that he's given it that much thought. Having it in hand or in a bag are the only options really when you start edging past 7" or so.
