G+_Stan Keeley
I'm getting ready to setup a new office in another state and was thinking of a portable nas like the Drobo mini or the DS414 Slim. I need to transfer important data between the 2 offices and it's a lot or I would over the internet. I have a few synology nas currently running and wanted to know is there any big difference between them that would make one better then the other. If you have other suggestions that would be greatly appreciated.
G+_Ben Reese
Is this a 1-time transfer or ongoing? If it's just 1-time and depending on the amount of data, you might be just as good using a large HDD. A 6TB HD is $200-300 on Amazon. I've never used either one, but I've always considered Drobo more of an external drive than a NAS - even if it has NAS capabilities.

G+_Jason Marsh
Ugh.. I had a guy whose office was moving halfway across the country to my location, so he copied everything onto CD-R, threw them on the dash, and hit the road. When he got there, they wouldn't work. It was probably 15GB of data. Lost... Almost. I was able to recover his data, albeit without the original folder structure and names. He learned not to put all his eggs in one basket up on the dash for a road trip. I can't speak to which NAS is better for your use, but I'd suggest carrying two copies of the data; perhaps on a NAS and a large external drive, or on two separate external drives, or two NAS units... If you only traveled with one copy, it would just suck to get there to realize something happened to a drive in-transit.
