G+_Stephen Syputa
Glue = The New Screw Is REPAIRABILITY of tech blase and no longer an important aspect of engineering expertise? Apple seems to think so and has led the way. * Is smaller and thinner necessarily better? * Are virtually non-replaceable batteries becoming the norm? * Has swap/replace versus hardware (yes, and even software) troubleshooting become the standard? * Is the tech world becoming one of throw-away-and spend instead of think and repair? G+_john ferris
I suppose the new generation is all about consume, throw away, buy, repeat.
G+_Travis Hershberger
Well, Apple also continues to make big profit from making devices that are nearly impossible to repair. If people still buy the stuff they will continue to make things harder and harder to work on.
G+_Eddie Foy
I needed a new laptop. I was forced to buy an older refurb'd model because I wanted the ability to at least change HD and RAM. Not happy with Apple for a number of years. Next laptop will be a hackintosh.
G+_Jason Perry
People want sleek and sexy. Glue is just the tech equivalent of plastic surgery. Personally I would like all my tech to be encased in a rubberized block of aluminum so it can live up to the beating I give it but I seem to be one of a very few people. G+_Steve C
This is nothing new, Apple products have never been repairable.
G+_Eddie Foy
Apple seems to have a thin fetish. I rather have it a bit thicker and bigger batteries. (on all devices) Hell, the band for all these 'clever watches' should be batteries, IMOHO. Its near wasted space. I had a smaller thinner phone that had replaceable battery and SD card slot, which was the reason Apple said it couldn't be done. All this disposable electronics (certainly not an Apple exclusive) has to be a HORRIFIC contribution to 'climate change' All the mining, transport, smelting, manufacturing, powering just to toss it 1-2 years later. G+_Steve C
The problem is that Apple would never sell repair parts and I always hated that. I used to be the I.T. guy for the local college and they had Apples but when one broke in order to fix it I would have to order the parts from a 3rd party that apparently tore down Apple products just to sell the parts. Apple would sometimes sell whole assemblies like the entire PC board for a color monitor at a high price nearly as much as buying a new monitor but never the little parts you need to repair the one you already have. Due to not being able to get parts I had to insist they not buy anymore Apple products but get other name brands such as Dell instead.
