G+_Mikey D
Does anyone else think TWIET should be renamed TWII (This Week in Interop). It seems all of the presenters are connected to it and now Interop itself is advertising. A touch too much Interop for my taste
G+_Chris Ames
Agreed. This is a main reason I stopped listening to that particular podcast. It became more or a product review and sales push.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
I'm sorry you feel that way.
G+_Chris Ames
If I may make a suggestion Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ it would be nice to see some coverage on mid-level enterprise hardware and software. Interop is great for that top tier hardware but unless you're working for fortune 500 company it is well out of reach for most of us. Just a thought. You cant please everyone but it would be nice to see a better reach out to sys admins and network engineers who make up a larger portion of the field. G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Chris Ames We try to do a little of everything and we'll always be upsetting some part of our viewership with the topics we choose, but we really are trying. Basically, TWiET is comprised of things we find interesting, multiplied by the guests we can book, divided by the time we have allotted for production. Sometimes we get it wrong, but I'm actually happy with how the show has developed. As for Interop. There's a reason why it makes it onto many episodes of TWiET: I've been working with Interop for 10 years, Brian for almost 20. Neither of us are PAID to work with Interop (we're part of the volunteer lead team) and yet we both dedicate close to 2 months a year to being at either Hotstage or the show. We do this because we BELIEVE in the promise of Interop: engineers from different companies getting together to pound out solutions that they wouldn't otherwise when siloed within their own teams. Brian and I have made a lifetime of connections within the Interop team and neither of us can say enough good things about our experience. We KNOW the engineers who wrote the whitepapers on which MOST of the technology driving today's networking is based. We've worked side-by-side with people who have made the enterprise gear that trickles down into SOHO and SMB gear. We've both cross-pollinated into fields of IT that we didn't think would ever be part of our toolkit. Interop isn't just a conference for us, it's a group of friends and colleges from which we form our view of the world of networking. (Seriously... we have a PAST-NOC list that can put us in touch with pretty much EVERY major IT player in the world.) if I were REMOVE Interop from TWiET, there would't be much left. The fact that Interop decided to advertise on the program is, in my mind, FANTASTIC because I like doing reads for companies that I trust. I know that some may call it a journalistic conflict, but I call it fortuitous. How often will I get to advertise for my geek family? I will take your suggestions seriously... and there is something in the works at TWiT that I think will make you VERY happy... but till then, please enjoy the network as much I as do I. Peace, Padre
G+_Marc Kline
That was a very well-stated response to some reasonable feedback. I listen to TWiET and enjoy when it's a bit over my head.... the same way I do with FLOSS Weekly, and few other non-TWiT tech podcasts. I like getting that inkling of knowledge that deepens my understanding of how things work, even if the usefulness of that knowledge is not directly in my wheelhouse. I also understand the Interop background and how it works into the show. It would be different if you met at an Oracle conference... So, my feedback is: keep up the good work!
