G+_Brian Goossen
So I need some advice... I just moved into a new apartment building (built last year) that only has one internet option. The price is reasonable at $40 mo. for 30 up/30 down, the WAPs are already installed in the building so my devices login to them then go through a password protected portal. This portal then logs the MAC address for each device. Here is the catch... I can only have 12 addresses "linked" to my account and if I want to delete one to replace it I have to CALL tech support (outsourced)! We already have 11 devices connected. So I'm open to all opinions and input... I know that it is likely not very secure (feel free to tell me how bad it is) and letting a guest use my internet is a PITA! I only plan to be here for about 6mo so I don't want to sink a bunch of money into it, but for the right solution I'll pony up. Thanks!!!
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
1. Connect an AP in bridge mode to the wireless network. (From WiFi to Ethernet) 2. Connect the bridged AP to the WAN port of a router 3. Connect as many devices to your router as you'd like. :)
G+_Brian Goossen
What would make a good AP (access point)? I do have a spare router sitting around to use. Are you suggesting using two wifi-routers, one to connect to the "wifi" and one to "broadcast" into my apartment?
G+_Brian Goossen
BTW i'm honored you took the time to answer my question Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ Thanks!

G+_Victor Nellissen
As a router a tp link with dd-wrt. As you have to login on a website this might be tricky with a router as ap. What I would do is 1 spoof my Mac address to match the one of the ap 2 login on the website 3 return to my normal Mac address and hook up the ap (should connect because the Mac address is safed)
G+_Barry Arendt
Ubiquiti makes good AP's all I use for both business and residential. www.ubnt.com
G+_Brian Goossen
Victor Nellissen actually I can login to the portal and add the MAC addresses easily. It is the deleting MACs that is the PITA. Good thinking though.
G+_Brian Goossen
Barry Arendt I found this guy. Is this what you would recommend? https://store.ubnt.com/unifi/unifi-ac-lite.html
G+_Brian Goossen
Does anyone know of one device that could be the AP and the router? Maybe something with two radios if that exists... I'll be moving out of here into a house in the next 6months so any hardware I could reuse there would be a big plus. Thanks for your help!!! G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Brian Goossen? most of the high end router will do that... Allowing you to use the 2.4ghz radio to bridge to the 5.8ghz radio or vice versa. I don't like doing it that way b/c I don't like losing one of my radios.
