Hey KITAs

I'm looking at building a Google Home bathroom roof speaker with Chromecast (even a shower shouldn't stop a podcast).

I'm guessing my easiest solution would be to hijack the speaker output of an actual google home and route that through an external amp. Any other suggestions?

The end functionality I want is normal Google Home voice assistant functionality plus a group Chromecast target.

Thanks Duncan

Any thoughts on how you are going to integrate the mic? I see this being the biggest roadblock. How good is a google home without the mic.

My thought on this issue is to ditch the google home and go for Mycroft, but I haven't played with that yet so it could be a horrible suggestion. Mycroft is an open AI project that you could build ontop of a pi which would solve the integration problem. At that you could do the same with alexia.

Someone posted a similar project quite some time ago. Theirs was a Bluetooth receiver through an amp to a speaker in their ceiling. They also put a nice docking station to change their phone.

Just put the GH in the bathroom and get a Bluetooth speaker / mic for the shower.

I am over cutting holes in walls to mount items only having them eventually break or become extinct and having to patch a hole.

Jason Perry either pull that off and mount it somewhere or leave the home on the bench and run the now external speaker wires into the roof.

However, I could cut the Home on the bandsaw and integrate it into a wall plate with the capacitive control/ display and microphones facing into the room.... this would be more awesome.Wonder if I could 3D Print a new mount and will have the capacitive controls and light work, the top of the home is just plastic from memory.

Ifixit here I come for a teardown refresh, hey look a sponsor!
