Also moving my discussion I started after the first show of the year about using tech to get fit.

Hi iyaz akhtar  liked your latest Know How episode but I felt you guys concentrated a little too much on the products, some of which you didn't even recommend or had problems with recommending, which was strange for a Know How episode. As +Leo Laporte kept saying staying fit is about motivation and there are tons of great apps that use the tech device you have close at hand. Here are a few of my picks.I am sharing the android links as yes their are choices for android users.

1. Endomondo is great because they have apps for a huge amount of devices and a huge worldwide community, you can also engage in various challenges for real world rewards such as $100 Amazon gift cards, Endomondo is about much more than simply running but a variety of physical activities, http://www.endomondo.com

2. Runkeeper was briefly mentioned in the show and they also have a very decent app and also a huge community, tons of social and sharing features are also in here.http://bit.ly/VA2dk6

3. Nike and Adidas both have a vested interest in making running apps and they both have some very good apps  for ios and android. Adidas Mi Coach came to Android first and I like their integration with their website, http://bit.ly/UonEBl

Nike only recently came over to android but was a fixture on apple devices for a few years, they have two apps for both devices http://bit.ly/Ut7DeP and http://bit.ly/WqUdi0, I prefer the Adidas app myself.

4. Finally what better way to stay motivated than running from Zombies,.Six to start released the popular Zombies run app after having it successfully funded on kickstarter and have now released a second version, Zombies run 5K for beginner runners http://bit.ly/RwBoNi I highly recommend it.

Bonus: Google Now on jellybean devices gives you a breakdown every month on your activity for the month, just now Google will pester us to get more active. :)

Great tips!

Fitness solutions are hard to recommend in general because different people are motivated by different things. Data-centric folks love wearable devices. We looked at products specifically because they are being marketed as the next big thing.

Some people (like me) just want a simple tracking system.

I tend to approach things from the opposite angle by finding ways to keep things simple and remove friction (things that keep us from achieving our goals). Using the tech that you have close at hand is a great place to start.

My concern is that single-purpose devices and apps can be used counter-productively as excuses...

"I don't have the money to buy/subscribe to the thing that's going to help motivate me."

"I missed a few days of working out and now I won't be able to catch up in whatever gamified program I'm participating in."

"I spent so much time trying to overcome the shortcomings of my device/app that it wasn't worth the trouble."

"I was using gadget/site/app to motivate me but then I got bored with it."

That said, everyone is different and if a gadget, site or application can help, all of these options are great and any reviews to help whittle down a person's options is a win. I plan on picking up a couple 2013 fitness gadgets to test/review myself.

So I'm definitely looking forward to future coverage in this area. Whether it's on KH or BYB.
