I am not sure what printer you have but if you want to fax over the internet there are services for that but you would scan the document and upload it to them. As far as automatic from the MFD(Multi Function Device) it would depend on the firmware and if they offered that capability. I know of no device that would do this out of the box though.

Another option would be an ATA device that would take the POTS analog telephone signal and convert it to packets over the network but you would need to subscribe to a SIP phone service and pay for that capability but this I have only seen with wired connections. You would have to set up a wireless bridge to get connected back to your WiFi.

Here are some options. We have problems with these at work tough because when the telephone signal gets packetized the different carriers treat the traffic different so YMMV.

Simple answer is "no".

More complicated answer is "yes, under the right conditions". Fax needs an uncompressed (or very lightly compressed) voice line. That's not usually an option.

A single channel of a T1 line is 64 Kbps and that's what you get (or used to get) with a home telephone "POTS" line. I'm sure there's a way to connect a POTS to SIP adapter (ATA) to an analog line somewhere and SIP to POTS adapter at your fax machine.

From what I'm seeing, only the G.711 codec will support 64 Kbps audio streams. G.726 will support 32 or 24 Kbps so might work. That should give some direction when looking for hardware.

Sounds like a fun project and I'd love to see it work (I've also project to get a fax machine working on Wi-Fi when we get rid of our POTS line at church). It's just easier to run a phone line.
