G+_Joe C. Hecht
Coding 101 - Episode 20 - Karl Auerbach It was great to see Karl on the show. It has been far too long since I have seen him, and it brought back a lot of fond memories from my days living up in the mountains of Santa Cruz, in our "treehouse" with 3 decks and surrounded by 68 redwoods. I hear the house finally slide off the hill. It was the site of many Borland parties, and could entertain as many as 150 people. I also share my distrust for languages that provide automatic garbage collection, and (IMHO) this feature does little more than promote sloppy programming practices. I also agree with Karl on sloppy use of integers, and will add that sloppy use of floats is also widespread, where few coders take float precision into account when doing compares - at least until the bugs start showing up. One's complement is certainly a fun topic as well. Karl was a fantastic guest for sure. He has contributed much to the computer community, and we all in his debt. I miss him.
