G+_Elias Mårtenson
so I'm a cable-cutter who has no interest in local news or national sports, and my dad is coming to stay with me for a few days over thanksgiving. Given he's not much of a techie, can anyone recommend a way for him to get his sports and local TV channels at my place? He lives a couple cities away. Is Slingbox easy to setup? Are there iOS apps that can get NFL games and college football games live? (with video?) Any other options you can think of?
G+_Joey R
If u have a computer with hdmi out u might be able to set up xbmc. I have not tried sports on it but I have watched other live content
G+_Jason Jespersen
add an antenna.
G+_Emil Geithner
Do you own a television? A set of "rabbit ears" should do for an antenna, assuming that the game(s) your dad wants to watch are on broadcast TV. Slingbox seems like overkill for just a few days. Just curious...What's the obsession with NECCO wafers? The New England Confectionery Company is almost in my backyard.
G+_Jay Kennedy
I do own a television but no antennae. I'm told digital broadcasting is a thing now and local TV is more enhanced over what I saw 10 years ago. He will be visiting with regularity and sometimes goes to Florida, and wishes he could watch TWC. The TWC app used to let him do that, but a recent update wiped that ability all together. Slingbox might be a good fit for him, I just don't know how hard it is to setup. Sorry for picking on the NECCO wafers so much, each Halloween I get on that kick :)
G+_Tracey Allen
Just keep your current setup, and spend some real quality time with your Pops. I know I never get enough time with him.
G+_Chuckie Canuckie
I've been using a small outside antenna with a rotor. Here I get Toronto and Buffalo channels. Better today then back with the B&W TV. I also have a small dish outside with a motor to get free to air. Some football and other sports. Once setup it's easy to flip through the tons of ethnic channels. Maybe have a look see if it's worth your time. Sometimes you can find the equipment cheaper in the buy and sell paper. http://rickcaylor.websitetoolbox.com/
G+_Jay Kennedy
My setup won't change...he wants to change his so he can watch TWC when he visits my place and when he goes to Florida. He enjoys TV a lot and I'd like to accommodate him.? Tracey Allen, he'll be here for five days and is making this request of me. We'll spend plenty of time doing other things. :) I love him dearly. G+_Emil Geithner
Slingbox may be an option, then. I've heard that it can be kind of a PITA to set up, but I've also seen it work VERY well once it is. Should be good when/if he goes to Florida, too. G+_Tracey Allen
I would go with an antenna, if at all possible.
