G+_Jason Perry
Parenting question My 2 year old kid has an ip camera in his room. When do I stop spying on him?
G+_John Mink
Wayne Hobbins I'd say 18. Or when he learns how to hack the IP camera :p
G+_John Mink
Sarcasm aside, I would say when you're certain he will sleep through the night without a problem and not say roll over and suffocate.
G+_Black Merc
5 or 6... by that time mommy and daddy should have taught the child something.
G+_Scott Snodgrass
Until he notices it.
G+_Reed Hanson
It is called helicopter parenting, stop now.....I mean it. :) He is going to be paranoid as it is. Who is watching me now?
G+_Ben Reese
I haven't used a camera personally, but we used an audio baby monitor for all 3. Youngest turned 2 a couple months ago and we still leave the baby monitor on at night. Probably will until he consistently sleeps through the night on his own. Any reason video is necessary? G+_Jason Marsh
Keep it up as long as it's not an issue for you, your spouse, or the child. Kids need to be taught right, but they also need a reasonable level of privacy.
G+_Akira Yamanita
I once did work at a house that had a camera in each of the kids' bedrooms, including the preteen daughter's bedroom. They weren't hidden but... it was weird. Anyway, I would stop at the point where you would stop using a baby monitor. Don't be that guy.
G+_Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ
Stop once you have enough embarrassing video to threaten him with a YouTube dump during his High School years. :) (But seriously, once you no longer need a baby monitor)
G+_Jason Perry
Thanks for the input. I had my own opinion on it but wanted a few honest opinions first. Since +Jason Marsh mentioned it, turns out it's more an issue for me than my wife. We have had a "network issue" once or twice to curve the use of the camera. For the people that think it is an invasion of privacy or hover parenting, you are right; but, on the flip side to a certain extent I don't mind being my kids personal NSA, kids need to be parented and if my kid is trying to climb out of the crib I want to know. But by no means do I plan on keeping the camera up till they are pre teens. At this point I think my personal line is when he can sleep in a big boy bed through the night. Really there is no real need but once they can sleep in a bed what are you watching at that point.
