G+_Jason Perry
So I am looking at how to deal with domain squatters. I have a .com I would like to get. It appeared the previous owner wasn't using it anymore so I thought I would wait it out and scoop it up when it became available but an auction company beat me to it. The price of the domain keeps dropping but I still don't want to pay their markup. With the registration expiring next year does anyone have suggestions how I should go about trying to get it? G+_Bostjan Cadej
You could post a question at icann.org
G+_Jason Marsh
I was in the same spot, but found a better solution was using a different TLD. There's a bazillion of them now, but most people will have no trouble knowing what to do with a .net, .org, .us, or any number of others. Not like it was ten years ago when your average internet user thought everything ended with .com
G+_Daniel Barron
I have been in this situation before. All you have to do is raise the issue with ICANN and pay the admin fee. Fairly easy. I also had a trade mark which helped but was not needed.
G+_Leonard Tuma III
I'm seeing this more frequently. There are some companies, like 1and1, where all domains, the minute they expire go immediately to an auction site.
G+_Jason Perry
Daniel Barron, Thanks for the info. Do I need to create an account or do they have a specific form. I just had a quick look so far but it seems they have lots of ways for you to interact with them.
G+_Daniel Barron
I used "use in bad faith" http://archive.icann.org/en/udrp/udrp-policy-24oct99.htm#4aiii This was in 2008 so things may have progressed even more. I just submitted an on-line form and had to pay an administration fee of something like $600. The squatter never bothered to reply so just defaulted.
