G+_Jason Perry
Looking at scrapping a bunch of old pentium computers. Any parts people suggest pulling for future electronics builds. Going through the power supplies to see about turning one or two into a bench top supply.
G+_Stede Bonnett
I find that they generally have bad caps after 5 years or so (even if they are still working). Worth taking apart to see which ones to keep...
G+_Taylor Graham
I have a bunch of old power supplies powering my lipo chargers and stuff. They're one of the best things to pull from an old machine. I'd say just keep all that work, throw them out as they die. When they die, cut off all of the connectors. G+_Ryan Standeven
That's a good idea!
G+_Jason Perry
I think all the cables will be put in one box, screws in their own container, and other miscellaneous parts (buttons, jumpers, etc) in another. I don't see a purpose for the hard drives. Not sure what I would want from an optical drive.
G+_E. Matt Armstrong
Jason Perry Old hard drives have some strong neodymium magnets inside, be careful they pinch if you let them snap together. If you part things out separately, cases can be steel, HD aluminum, boards separate. My local scrap yard pays out more that way. Plus look around if you see something interesting, ask if the sell. I have bought lots of project parts from them at scrap metal prices.
